This year for summer the kids and I thought it would be fun to make our own essential oil lip balm. We searched the internet for different recipes. Once we found one we liked we headed over to Amazon to get all the necessary stuff. We ordered some Shea Butter from Radha Beauty ($13 for a pound), Coco Care Coconut oil from Woof! Woof! ($7 for 4 oz), organic Beeswax from Hansi Naturals ($7 for 5 oz), and some empty tubes from DIY Natural Products ($11 for 25-3/16 oz tubes). All in all it cost us about $38 (plus the essential oils we decided to use).
We had a blast playing scientist with this project. The kids loved helping and learned a little science in the mean time. They got a kick out of how the hot liquid cooled and turned into a solid.
We love the stuff and use it all the time. In the future we would use less Shea butter since it over took the oils. Amazon does have kits that come with the all the stuff you would need for one batch (12 tubes), but for a little over $10 more we got all the individual components and have a ton left over to make at least two more batches.
**On a side note…If you live in a hot climate like we do….order when the weather is cool. Our Shea butter was melting when it was delivered. Once we brought it inside it solidified.**
