The Junior Sun Devils hockey program has always been very impressive. Having ties to the very successful D1 NCAA ASU hockey program, this youth program offers not only regular season teams but also off season training camps even for those outside of the program. I myself have done their preseason camp twice and have been very impressed. The coaching staff has always delivered with high level training in all aspects of the game, from stick handling to power skating, even game like passing drills. These camps have led to a great improvement in my skillset, along with a few peers I knew that also registered.
While these camps I took have been several years ago while the program only had tier 2 level teams, they since have improved to having tier 1 AAA youth teams throughout all age groups. This only means the coaching and training has improved, leading to better player development. They have always aimed at spreading the sport of hockey throughout the valley, and have been very successful at such.
The one drawback in the ice rink that the program is run out of, as Oceanside Ice Arena is in dire need of renovations. With small locker rooms and poor ice quality, it can put a damper in the play of some new players to the rink. However with the construction of the new Arizona State multipurpose arena, it is possible the program will receive a new home.
I highly recommend this program to any advanced youth hockey player who is looking to improve their skill set and take their game to the next level.
